Line

In my 3D class we are focusing on line, or a space between point A and point B. It's very challenging, and for homework we had to write down definitions and physical properties of line. This is what I came up with.

  1. Abstract/Metaphorical ideas/definitions of line:
  • A representation of such objects
  • A distance between two points
  • The path of a moving point
  • Distance that suggests space and mass
  • Where your eye follows
  • General appearance or outline
  • No solid areas
  • Not always made by a ruler
  • May be used to convey a certain emotion
  • The beginning of a composition
2. Descriptions of some physical properties of line:
  • Straight, curved, wavy (type)
  • Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, zigzag (direction)
  • Thick, thin
  • Harsh, soft
  • Fast, slow
  • Organic (irregular shape), synthetic (regular, mechanical)
  • Implied, actual
  • Parallel, adjacent, perpendicular
  • Tall, short
  • Wide, narrow
Here are some examples I created:
